What are the negative effects of sin??
There are many negative effects of sin in the life of a believer that we must all be aware of, to prevent us from going down a path that may destroy our lives.
All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
1 john 5:17
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
james 4:17
According to these scriptures, ALL wrongdoing is sin. Anything wrong that you do is sin. Whatever that you do and you know that it is wrong, is sin. It doesn’t matter how you try to convince yourself otherwise, it still remains sin.
The Negative effects of sin.
As humans we may not understand the reason why God doesn’t allow us to do certain things. Believe me, it is for our own good. We tend to believe that, well I did, that God is trying to limit me from enjoying the pleasures of the world, why?
Why must I miss out? Believe it or not, God is just trying to look out for us. He know that there are many negative effects of sin and He is literally looking out for us. When we live pure, holy and righteous lives we are safe.
Safe from what? Well I’m glad you asked.
Sin makes us one with the devil
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
i john 3:8
When we make a practice of sin, the bible says we belong to the devil. One of the negative effects of sin is that when we behave like the devil does we become like him.
Sin is a characteristic of the devil. It’s in his DNA. If we also sin, it means we have the same DNA as he does. Therefore that means that when you have the same DNA as someone, then you are related. You have a relationship.
You can not be of God when you have the DNA of the devil. This is because these 2 can not mix, it’s like water and oil. There is this DNA show that I watch (not Maury, c’mon guys..) and I like the way the guy gives out the results.
He says John, you are excluded from paternity which means that there is nothing of yours that’s in the baby’s DNA. He goes on to explain that no 2 men can both contribute to the making of 1 child. That is scientifically impossible. You are either the father or not.
Sin makes us devilish in nature
You can not be 60% the father and the other guy is the father by 40%. And both of you combined are the father. Impossible. You are either the father or you are not.The same applies to us Christians. We can not have the best of both worlds. We can not do God 70% and 30 % the devil. Impossible. We have to pick a side. Either Or. God and Satan can not both father us. So the bible makes it easy for us to clear the air for all those who think that it’s OK to have the best of both worlds. News flash , IT’S NOT.
The negative effect of sin is that it makes us the devils children as we have his DNA.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
matthew 6:24
This is clear. You can not serve 2 masters. That is a lie. You can’t be a lukewarm believer and it be OK. LIES from the pit of hell. With God you have to be all in or out. Also guys I have news for you, you can’t be a “in the middle ground typa christian”
Another lie. That’s not even possible. You can’t say yea OK, I am a Christian but not a fanatic like that guy over there. I’m just going to go to church and not have to do other church stuff because that’s over the top. Guys that used to be me. I had never served in church. I was that person who would go to church, do my thing and leave soon after. Because I was too busy with other stuff. That didn’t mean that I didn’t love God, I told myself, after all I was in church every Sunday- right?
No. Wrong!!
If you are not on fire and burning for God you are against God. If you are not gathering with Him (serving) then you are scattering. It’s not OK to not do anything. Not doing anything is not gathering. Not my handwriting guys, it’s there in the bible
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
luke 11:23
Guys, you, like me, probably didnt know all this and thought that it’s not bad to not serve. There are after all people with time who can do that stuff. I was convicted, even more, whilst doing the research for this article. We tend to take these things for granted but it is what God expects from us.
The church is one big body with many small parts and we all must become a useful part of the body otherwise it won’t function. We can’t say a toe is not as important as a head because when you don’t have it, you can’t walk.
Sin opens the door to the devil to torment us
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
ephesians 4: 26-27
Another negative effect of sin is that, when we sin we give the devil an opportunity. I explained earlier on how sin makes us one with the devil. Since we are the same as him and he basically owns and controls a sinner, then he can surely do anything to you.
Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, a curse that is causeless does not alight.
Proverbs 26:2
When we sin, we give the devil a right to attack us. When there is no cause there is no reason for him to come near us.
And when he does attack he will turn your life upside down. Demonic attacks, disease, misfortune you name it. When we open the doors there is no telling what he can use to attack you with. So the best way to stay clear off the devil is to live a righteous life where the devil can not have a cause to curse you
Sin separates us from God
But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
isaiah 59:2
Sin offends God because God is Holy and perfect and righteous. He is perfect hence He despises sin. Because He is so righteous and just he can not simply look the other way or tolerate it. God loves us and He created us to fear Him and obey commands. When we don’t obey His commands, we sin.
A devastating negative effect of sin is that sin separates us from God. When we sin we do not fulfil the purpose for which we were created. Sin cuts us off from God by forming a wall of separation between Him and us. He is a holy God therefore He can not stand anything foul.
Just imagine bringing nasty rotten food on the dining table and mixing it together with nice fresh food. I’m guessing that you won’t be able to stand the smelly rotten food and you simply have to throw it away. The same is with God. He can not coexist with sin, as He is righteous. So, there will be a wall to separate our nasty stinky selves from His righteousness.
Imagine leading a life that is separated from God? How cold, hopeless, lonely, dangerous, exposed will you be? I know for a fact that if the presence of God were to live me I would not make it.
I am weak without Him watching over me. I never want there to be a wall of separation between me and God.
Like David said
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Psalm 51:11
It is by far my worst nightmare, the idea of having to do life without God is horrific to me.
It takes away our salvation
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
hebrews 10:26
What this scripture means is essentially that, when we have been saved and accept Jesus as our Saviour but continue to live in sin, (mostly because we are misappropriating grace to mean that we are free to do what we want) then we revert back to no salvation.
How can we be under salvation when we are supposed to have died to sin? The worst negative effect of sin is that, If we continue to sin, we lose our salvation and go back to the law of Moses. And what does the law of Moses entail? That you reap what you sow. If you sow sin, you will reap death.
So I hate sin with a passion because it takes away my salvation and gets me back to death.
