God hates sin, because he is Holy. He hates ALL kinds of sin. But there are seven sins that He hates more than others. The bible says, these are an abomination to him. God especially detests these sins because they cause harm to others. There are sins which when you do is between you and God, but these seven sins are injurious to our neighbours. God loves people more than anything so he doesn’t want them to be hurt. These are the seven abominations that especially provoke him. These are the seven things that God hates.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brother
PROVERBS 6 : 16-19
Personally, God has been working on me, on my renewal and transformation into Christlikeness. I realised that these seven abominations are an area where I struggled with a lot. He has been working on me, convicting me and I too have been praying that God delivers me from these sins.
Which seven things are an abomination to God?
1. Pride
God detests pride. Pride is that attitude that makes one overestimate themselves, seeing themselves as being better than everyone else and demeaning and looking down upon everyone else.
God detests this. Pride is the focal point for ALL types of sin. It all starts with pride. Pride is one of the seven things that God hates and we must do away with any and all pride.
The Lord detests the proud, they will surely be punished
proverbs 16:5
This verse shows us clearly that pride is a non-starter with God. It’s the same pride that made Lucifer turn against God because he thought he was more than he actually was and thought that he could be like God.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
james 4:6
God exalts us when we humble ourselves. But when we are prideful he cats us down because He detests pride.
Let’s humble ourselves. This here is the key to deal with pride
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
romans 12:3
2. A lying tongue
A lying tongue is another one of the seven things that God hates.
The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in those who tell the the truth
PROVERBS 12:22
Nothing is more sacred than the truth because God is the way, the truth and the life. This may seem like a small issue, but for me I struggled with “white lies”. I got so used to white lies that I did it without even thinking twice. But when I started my journey of transformation the Holy Spirit convicted me so much every time I lied.
I started realising how bad I was able to lie so naturally without even feeling bad about it. Then I asked the Holy Spirit to convict me, not after the lie but before.
This was so serious for me that I started asking myself if I was a pathological liar? And honestly this was my rock bottom.
I started intentionally telling the truth all the time. The whole truth or say nothing. This is the principle that I am using and one which works. If it’s not true, don’t say it. Better not say anything than to lie.
This can also be the solution that you can use if you find yourself also drowning in the sea and habit of “harmless white lies”.
God detests lying lips. It doesn’t matter why you are doing it. He detests it. STOP IT!!. Tell the truth because God delights in the truth.
The devil is the father of lies
One thing that made me say never again will I lie is the simple fact that the devil is the father of lies. Literally, this is his native language.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. he was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
JOHN 8:44
When I saw this verse I was like OMG!! When I lie I am doing the devils will. Seriously?? At that point I knew there was nothing like a harmless lie.
Because when you lie you are doing his desires and his will. There is no truth in him. WOW!! Deep right?
If nothing will stop you from lying this will. When you lie you are working for the devil and advancing his kingdom. Being an evangelist of the demonic kingdom. The devil is a liar, and when you lie you are being just like him, a liar.
IMAGINE THAT??
So yes, lies are the devil’s character and truth is God’s character. Make your choice wisely.
3. Hands that kill the innocent
When we talk about the seven things that God hates we must definitely include hands that kill the innocent or hands that shed innocent blood as other translations call it
Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but he offers his friendship to the godly.
PROVERBS 3:31
God detests violent people. Violence comes in different forms. It may come in “simple assault’ to actual murder.
However it is, whatever it is, God hates violence. He loves people who are friendly, patient and loving as He Himself is love.
I know most people will say that they are not murderers, they have never killed anyone, innocent or guilty. But it all comes down to violence and cruelty.
People who are known for shouting, bullying, yelling or whatever it is, that everyone else is afraid of.
God detests people who are bloodthirsty and cruel. God is love and expects us to love and show love to everyone around us and not hurt others. He actually detests violent people. Its not only limited to murder.
4. A heart that plots evil
A heart that plots evil things or a heart that devises wicked plans is one of the seven things that God hates.
God detests evil plans, but he delights in pure words.
PROVERBS 15:26
This is not limited to plotting, killing or destroying someone. It may be as simple as plotting something or revenge against someone who has hurt you and you want to get them back.
Revenge is for God. Never plot evil against anyone, no matter what they may have done to you.
I remember for the longest time i prayed this prayer
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer
psalms 19:14
Because I wanted God to cleanse me from all evil impure thoughts. Every thought that was not for good i didn’t want it.
I desire that whatever is going on in my heart be pleasing to God. This helped me get rid of all nasty thoughts about people.
Having a heart that plots evil is literally being the devils incarnate.. The devil is covetous, envious, manipulative and every second of his existence he is plotting evil.
The more craft, scheming, manipulation and planning there is to your thoughts about someone, the more of an abomination it is to God
5. Feet that race to do evil
I placed feet that race to do evil as the 5th thing out of the seven things that God hates. The eagerness to hurt others is another thing that God detests. The desire and resourcefulness to sin breaks God’s heart. How can your heart rejoice in causing someone pain?
How can you live with yourself? Whatever the reason is behind why you do it, it is detestable to God.
DO NOT DO IT!!
When you grab every opportunity to pull down, demean, embarrass, shame, and cause harm to someone, that is an abomination to God.
These are the attributes of the devil who has no love in his heart and delights in sin. God desires for people to have love for him and for our brethren.
If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
1 JOHN 4:20
When your feet race to do evil, you do not love your brothers. So when you say you love God but race to do sin these are lies. Because love is love. For God and for your neighbour.
So each time you find your feet about to race to do evil, each time you find yourself with no remorse for hurting another, regardless of what they have done to you, remember that act only shows your hate for God as well.
6. A false witness who speaks lies
This one here is a very dangerous sin that needs to be avoided at all costs. We must take extra caution not to become false witnesses. Being a false witness can land someone in prison when you don’t check yourself.
Out of the seven things that God hates, 2 of them fall under the sin of lying. This shows just how dangerous lying is. He hates lying literally twice more than He hates other sins.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape.
PROVERBS 19:5
The word is specific about the consequences for those who lie through their teeth. It’s one thing to just lie and it’s another to say a lie against another person. Saying something untruthful to incriminate another.
This destroys people’s lives, peoples families, people’s future. No matter how badly someone has hurt you DO NOT be a false witness against them.
If you don’t know something for sure about something or someone, don’t say it. Only stick to the facts that you are 100% sure about.
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
EXODUS 20:16
This here is actually one of the 10 commandments to show how serious of sin it is. If this is something that you are struggling with, I suggest that you repent and ask God to forgive you.
Then you must start working on yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to heal you from whatever happened to you that may cause you to want to hurt other people.
7. Sowing discord among brothers
God is peace and love. He doesn’t want people to cause strife and chaos. He is a God of order. This is why sowing seeds of discord among brethren is among the seven things that God hates. He detests this behaviour. It is an abomination to Him.
Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,
2 TIMOTHY 2:23-25
God wants us as his children to not be involved in strife, controversies and unnecessary quarrels. We must be the representative of Jesus here on earth. We Must let our lights shine before the earth so that they can see our goodness and give glory to God.
Jesus wasn’t involved in strife. He didn’t cause problems among others. As Christians we must not be known for causing confusion and chaos.
We must be the light in the darkness. We must be the peacemakers. We must be the answer and the solution to disasters in this world. Not the reason there is chaos.
We must bring people together through the love of God that is inside us. We must teach people about love, patience and endurance like Jesus did. Let people gravitate to us for our light. Because of the holy Spirit that lives inside of us.
