One of the most annoying things that we encounter as Christians is the fact that even after we have given our lives to Jesus the world we live in still sucks.
That reality sucks all the more right? To you and me both sis!!
After that beautiful encounter with Jesus, we aspire and hope our lives will be as beautiful as that moment that we met him right, but sadly that’s not the case.
We are still living in this fallen world and the devil is still the prince of this world. So it’s bound to suck.
What does the bible say about pressing on?
But, as the bible says, we are in this world but we certainly are not of this world.
But what does that mean??
While we are here we must find a way to thrive and survive until the day we meet the lover of our souls.
And how do we do that?
We press on. You and I must press on daily until that day we walk down that street of gold.
The bible says that we must hold on to the promise of what lays ahead and ignore what we see. We must work hard to be like Jesus no matter the circumstances. We must give this discipleship thing our all as if our lives depend on it.
The following bible verses about pressing on will help you overcome and conquer those days when the ugliness of the world seems too much on you.
Scriptures on pressing forward
Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
When we look at the Scriptures on pressing forward this particular one stands out.
Here Paul talks about pressing on to Christlikeness, continuing to work at being the best version of himself that he can be.
Paul mentions in this Bible verses about pressing on that it’s not something that he has already achieved but he will continue to press on. Continue to put in the work. By pressing on Paul means that he picks up his cross, deny yourself, daily to follow Jesus and be like him as this is what we are called to do.
So as Paul did, he hoped to eventually get that crown in heaven. And I don’t know about you, but I also desire to receive that crown.
I desire for God to say well done good and faithful servant. So for that to happen I will press on, against all odds.
And so must you!!
Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
This is one of the Scriptures on pressing forward that I absolutely love. Listen, sis. When life starts acting crazy and you are soo confused and disheartened remember this.
I always have a mental picture of God sitting above in heaven and this earth is like a chess game with many small pieces.
I envision God moving the chess pieces and knowing if I make this play now it will result in a checkmate. So let me sit this play out. And let me move this piece instead.
This Bible verses about pressing on shows how we are the chess pieces and the direction that we want the chess piece to be moved may lead to checkmate but we don’t know that because unlike God, we don’t know the end from the beginning.
But God does. So when I committed to trusting God with all my heart I resolved to trust him enough with everything.
When things happen the way that I didn’t expect or hope for I always say God, thank you for blocking that checkmate. And I trust that whatever decision that he makes is for my good because I love him and he loves me.
Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
This is one of the best Scriptures on pressing forward. Listen, sis, God will always finish what he started.
When life gets overwhelming and you lose focus on where you are going and or how you even got here, the devil has a way of doing that to people who love God because he is a liar.
Every time you wonder what the point of all this is, please remind yourself by these bible verses about pressing on, that the God, who took you out of the world will finish that plan that he has for your life.
In my case, when I gave my life back to Jesus, God told me that he is the one who took me out of the world because he has a plan for my life that I had to fulfil.
Believe me, the devil knows those who are called and won’t rest until he stops and blocks that which God started in them.
But I meditate on these bible verses about pressing on and remember that even if it may not have manifested yet, God will bring it to completion.
And on that day, when I stand before my creator I will be glad that God picked me and that I got to serve the purpose for which I was called and created for.
The same goes for you, sis.
Before you were even born God created you and he created you for a reason. And for you to be reading this right now means that you are seeking answers.
But let me tell you this. God is not asleep. Keep pressing on. Don’t lose hope. Press on until the mark and I promise you, God will complete that which he began in you.
It may not be as fast as you want, but trust him and wait.
Bible verses about pushing through
2 Peter 1:10-11
So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
This is another amazing bible verse about pushing through. Paul advises us to ensure that our behavior, reflects and confirms that we are followers and disciples of Jesus. People must see us as the salt and the light of the world by our conduct.
Paul advises us in these Bible verses about pressing on that, by so doing we will never stumble in our spiritual growth and we will live lives that lead others from sin.
Pressing on as followers of Christ means that our lives must be epistles. Our lives must reveal Jesus. Pressing on as I mentioned earlier, is striving to be Christlike in every situation.
Pressing on means that even when it is not the popular way forward we do it anyway, because we want to eventually receive that crown.
Sis let me tell you, there is a cost to discipleship. There is a cost to following Jesus. And that is pressing on even when it is uncomfortable.
1 Peter 2:21
For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his footsteps.
This is a beautiful bible verse about pushing through. You are encouraged to do good. Believers often wonder what their calling is?
There you have it.
This Bible verse about pressing on says that you were called to do good. In every circumstance, we are called to do good always. Even if doing good leads to persecution and suffering, this is our calling.
Jesus suffered and died for us for being good. This Scripture on pressing forward says that the least we can do is also reciprocate the goodness that he exhibited to us, by being good to others.
Doing good is our calling and this bible verse about pressing on reveals it beautifully.
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
This bible verse about pressing on is a major push to pressing on. It is one of the most inspirational Scripture on pressing forward that I have come across.
The writer of Hebrew encourages us that since many witnesses have already finished their races and are looking down and cheering on us we must work extra hard to not let their cheer be in vain.
They are up there saying, sister Faith you can do it. Resist that devil and you will get your crown just like we did.
They are cheering that the world’s salvation depends on us. If we live Christlike lives, we will preach the gospel by our actions and bring people to eternal life.
But how to do this, is where the issue of pressing on comes in. The writer says that we must strip off everything that is unnecessary weight as well as every sin which tricks and entangles us and creates a barrier between us and God.
As far as pressing on the writer encourages you to run with endurance and active persistence in the race that is set before you, looking ONLY to Jesus and pressing in against all odds.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray without ceasing,
This Bible verse about pressing on is the simplest yet most clear instruction on how to press on. Pray pray pray.
Whatever situation that you may be going through, pray. It doesn’t matter how hard it is but pray.
Praying endlessly is a sure way to press on because we serve a God who answers prayer, and by praying we are pressing on for him to equip us with strength, guidance, breakthrough, and any other issue that may be plaguing us.
Prayer especially when you pray in the spirit, recharges your batteries. When you are weak, confused, and demoralized, you press in through prayer.
The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf when we don’t know what we ought to pray for.
And you can rest assured that when the spirit of God prays through you then everything will be made right and you will indeed get a breakthrough.
So sis, pray always. Press on through and by prayer.
Bible verses about pressing into God
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I should be disqualified.
I absolutely love this bible verse about pressing into God. Paul tells us that he has to discipline his body for it to obey him not the other way round.
The flesh has a tendency to wanna call all the shots and you and I both know that to be carnally minded is death. So carnality comes when the flesh controls you.
But you must be like Paul and learn from his tip here, I know I did. That he works with a purpose. And he keeps his eyes on the prize. And the prize is that crown.
Paul in all his greatness feared that after having preached to all of us he may be disqualified unless he also took control of his body.
Doing this is pressing on. Putting your body and your mind under the obedience of Christ is pressing on.
You must also do the same. Do not allow your body to control you and determine how you do things. Lest it leads you to disaster.
Philippians 2:13
For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
This Bible verse about pressing into god clearly reveals how your faith works. Paul says that it is certainly not your strength but it is God’s strength that is working inside you to strengthen you, energize you, and create that longing inside you and that ability to fulfill your purpose for the glory of God.
So the desire for pressing on my sister, before I close this post, is from God. It is He who gives us any desire to do things that glorify him. So next time that you doubt if God is at work or near you, always remember that when you have that desire to fast, pray, be holy, read the bible and to generally do things that glorify him, it is not your flesh.
It is God.
He works in you to want to and to be able to do his work for his pleasure.
